I hate to make a new report about what I think is a related bug. Hardware - IBM T20 Laptop Issue - All screensavers in GNOME crash frequently. This often returns the error code listed above, thought occasionally the whole machine freezes and I cannot kill the X-session. The real hard freeze appears to occur either at the moment the screensavers are set to cycle or at the moment when the LOCK funtion is supposed to kick in. Sorry this isn't the most technical report ever. Both reporters: what sort of video card are you using? I have a Xinerama setup with onboard i810 on one side, and a Matrox 1064SG (mga driver - I think it's a mystique) on the other side. I added this bug to the xscreensaver FAQ a while back. Here's what I said. I welcome any additional wisdom, as it has me completely stumped... http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/faq.html#sequence-lost 5. XScreenSaver crashes every time I use the unlock dialog, with a message about ``Sequence Lost'' and/or ``X_FreeColors''. I started getting reports of this in late 2002, and haven't been able to make much sense of it. The crash message looks something like this: Xlib: sequence lost (0x83f05 > 0x73f05) in reply type 0x0! X Error of failed request: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) Major opcode of failed request: 88 (X_FreeColors) (The ``sequence lost'' message is the real error: that means that the connection to the X server has gotten corrupted. After that point, the FreeColors error is just a result of that earlier corruption.) I think this problem manifests itself most often on machines running Xinerama in 16-bit mode, but I've also (rarely) heard of it on single-screen non-Xinerama systems. I've spent a long time trying to reproduce this, and haven't gotten anywhere. At this point, I'm inclined to believe that it is a recently-introduced bug in the X server itself. One person told me that he was having this problem, and it went away after he upgraded to XFree86 snapshot 4.2.99.3. Others have told me that switching from 16-bit to 24-bit fixed it. If you have this problem, please try upgrading that version of XFree86 (or newer), and let me know what happens: whether it helped, or didn't help. Also, if you are using Xinerama, try turning it off (just use the normal multi-head mode instead.) Again, please let me know whether that helped, or didn't help. Hi, This bug report is very old and the problem reported is probably fixed by now. I'm going to close this report, but if you encounter the problem in FC3 or with a recent version of X or xscreensaver, please feel free to reopen. |
