Description klaatu 2011-11-07 18:23:54 UTC
Macbook2,1 (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz). Booting to Fedora 16 beta renders a black screen with exactly this:

  1.

  2.
Select CDROM Boot Type: _

Regardless of what I enter, I get no sign of life and cannot get past that screen.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 16 beta-X

How reproducible:
100% on this laptop

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Insert boot disc into drive
2. Restart computer holding 'option' down after POST
3. Wait for black screen. Game over.

Actual results:
Unable to boot into fedora installer

Expected results:
Should be able to boot into installer and/or live environment.

I just tested the disc on another macbook of the same approximate specs as well as on a Mac Pro tower. Worked as expected. I'm assuming it's firmware needing to be updated in my original test; closing the bug.

I have the same problem:

1. Downloaded Fedora-16-x86_64-DVD.iso and burned it to a DVD.

2. Confirmed that 'sha256sum /dev/sr0' gives the correct checksum.

3. Inserted the DVD into the drive of a Dell M6500 laptop.

4. Rebooted the M6500, with the DVD drive first in the boot sequence.

5. The M6500 boots from the hard drive, ignoring the DVD !?

Repeating this on a Dell T7500 desktop gives the same result, the
DVD is ignored.

Additional info:
Both the M6500 and the T7500 boot OK when I replace the
Fedora-16-x86_64-DVD.iso DVD with bootable disks containing
older FC distributions.
