hm... apparently it didn't like my unicode characters...
Since upgrading to F16, I occasionally get a group of black bars (looking sort
of like the characters in the U+1D300 to U+1D356 unicode block ("Tai Xuan Jing Symbols"), but around 50x50 pixels) splattered over newly-drawn windows, usually near the top left. They generally disappear when the window redraws, and taking a screenshot seems to reliably make them disappear too.
I get random screen corruption as well. I will try to get a screenshot. I have the feeling that it happens more often when there's higher memory pressure. I switched desktops and found this. When I clicked on it to focus the terminal, the text part cleared up. When I switched tabs, the tab parts cleared up.

When I went to crop the previous screenshot, I discovered that non-fullscreen windows had corrupted window decorations. I moved the window over a white area so it's more visible.
I would be suspicious of a bug in gnome-shell or mutter, except that this started before I was using it. I used to think it was a bug in seamonkey, since that's where I really noticed it as images on websites would be corrupted and it would get worse the longer I used it. Although it's always possible that there are separate bugs involved. This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '16'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.
