Description Kevin R. Porter 2011-11-09 05:39:16 UTC
Description of problem: Under Fedora 16 final release, "system-config-bind" fails to start due to a missing dependency, requires "bonobo".

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
system-config-bind-4.0.15-4

How reproducible: 100% reproducible

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Installed Fedora 16 final release from livecd desktop spin
2. Used Add/Remove software to install bind and system-config-bind
3. attempt to start system-config-bind, which sez its creating initial bind
    config, THEN EXITS spontaneously.
4. Tried restarting system-config-bind, window appears for a fraction of a
    second, then disappears.
5. Tried # sudo system-config-bind from a terminal to see what traceback said
and got traceback shown below, which indicates it wants bonobo.ui

Actual results:

[krp@falcon ~]$ sudo system-config-bind
ImportError: could not import bonobo.ui
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/sbin/system-config-bind", line 197, in <module>
    GUI(sys.argv)
File "/usr/sbin/system-config-bind", line 107, in __init__
    self.bind=BIND(self, argv)
File "/usr/share/system-config-bind/BIND.py", line 95, in __init__
    self.load()
File "/usr/share/system-config-bind/BIND.py", line 192, in load
    self.zoneTree = ZoneTree(self)
File "/usr/share/system-config-bind/ZoneTree.py", line 1010, in __init__
s.appBar.set_status(_('Select an object; press and release the right-hand mouse button.'))
AttributeError: '__main__.GnomeAppBar' object has no attribute 'set_status'

and system-config-bind exits.

Expected results: system-config-bind starts and displays window.

Additional info: This is simply a missing dependency in the system-config-bind package as proven by the following:

Seeing the ImportError for bonobo.ui, I manually installed gnome-python2-bonobo.x86_64 0:2.28.1-5.fc16 and after installing it, system-config-bind now starts correctly. Clearly system-config-bind is dependent upon bonobo, but installed without it, so there is a missing dependency in the system-config-bind package.

Comment 1 Fedora End Of Life 2013-01-16 14:13:32 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '16'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2013-02-13 15:12:58 UTC
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
