I have the same problem, but never switched to KDE... I can login in console mode and do startx, but then, gnome-shell pretend that my graphic card has not sufficient capabilities, and switches to fallback mode. All worked fine in Fedora 15... If you are using the nvidia drivers this is a known problem between nvidia and glibc. I switched to nouveau driver and it works. My system uses an Intel graphics card. In my case, this is a duplicate of 753387. Caribou was installed in i686 version while my system is x86_64. I removed the Caribou package and reinstalled it in x86_64 version : gdm and gnome-shell work fine now. Yes, this worked for me (reinstalling caribou as x86_64). *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 753149 *** |
