Description Milan Bouchet-Valat 2011-11-13 11:04:44 UTC
The new Firefox 8 disables add-ons installed by third-parties: at first run of Firefox 8, the user is presented with a list of installed add-ons in which all add-ons that have not been installed manually are unchecked. Clicking on "OK" without looking at it results in disabling them.

This means that all non-advanced users that installed upgrades in F15 end up with a non-localized Firefox.

This bug could be solved in Fedora by completely disabling that dialog, since we don't have random third-parties installing unwanted toolbars like on Windows. But it should also be fixed upstream: I can't find a reason why a language pack could hurt users, since you only use one locale at a time anyway.

workaround

I should disable the dialog although it depends on recent firefox profile state.

New update has been posted to:

https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2011-15721

please test the package firefox-8.0-2. The fix may not be 100% working (it depends on recent profile state) but I think it's ok as a temporary workaround.

According to http://blog.ffextensionguru.com/2011/11/09/disable-firefox-8-add-on-controls/ we have to set extensions.shownSelectionUI too.
