Description Jan Andres 2011-11-13 22:38:21 UTC
Description of problem:
anaconda doesn't detect my installed Fedora 15 system which I want to upgrade to Fedora 16. It behaves as if the existing installation wasn't there and only offers to do a new install.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
anaconda as distributed with Fedora 16 install media.

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot from Fedora 16 install DVD
2. Proceed through installation up to the point where it should offer to do an upgrade

Alternatively, try to use preupgrade -- the installer will terminate complaining it cannot find the root of the installed system.

Actual results:
anaconda doesn't offer to upgrade the existing system

Expected results:
anaconda does offer to upgrade the existing system

Additional info:
I'm attaching a tar containing the anaconda logs as captured from the /tmp directory of the installer environment.

Comment 2 Jan Andres 2011-11-13 22:42:13 UTC
Ah, this information might be useful: The root of the installed Fedora 15 system is on /dev/sdb1 (plain partition, no md/LVM/whatever).

Comment 3 Chris Lumens 2011-11-14 01:05:42 UTC
Do you have /var on a separate partition?

Comment 4 Jan Andres 2011-11-14 07:18:44 UTC
Yes, /var is on partition /dev/sdb2.
