The crash happens when I log into kde. not every time but quite often. i have skype, thunderbird, and Empathy starting when i log in i think it is laged to Empathy because it is the only program that quits working after the crash.

I have done this. I don't crash anymore but I still cannot log in ('Disconnected - No reason specified' and it tries to log in again).

Does this mean that F16 will ship without working support for MSN chat? (not a disaster; but for folks with many contacts on MSN it's a blocker/PITA)

I stand corrected; doublecheck showed the post from Forest Bond still has a incorrect url: correct one (from upstream patch) is "local-bay.contacts.msn.com".

Having corrected that in the three locations as specified in patch; (and making sure telepathy-butterfly was restarted) it now works for me.

Fedora-16 (final release), running empathy IM with a Windows-Live account, the "telepathy-butterfly" connection script seems to be failing solid over the past few days... This MSN account works fine with F15.

To reproduce:
(1) configure Empathy with a Windows-Live (MSN) IM account and 
(2) after a few seconds, you get notification of a crash in "telepathy-butterfly".

Hi all!

I have my own msn client (written in C) and I'm also affected by this issue, it's a change on msn servers' configuration.

I managed to solve the situation by telling libcurl to NOT change from POST to GET after receiven a 301 redirect when talking to contacts.msn.com.

Here's the snippet that did the trick for me:

curl_easy_setopt(handle, CURLOPT_POSTREDIR, CURL_REDIR_POST_ALL);

Initial run of empathy:

1) Start empathy, it asks to add new accounts.
2) Added first a Google Talk account, and selected to add another account.
3) Added an MSN account, filled in the details.
4) Since 'Don't add any more accounts' was already selected, I didn't touch that, and just clicked next, as I was done adding accounts.

Upgraded from Fedora 16 through PreUpgrade. Now when I login, empathy can't connect to msn anymore. I have tried to remove the account and add it again but it still doesn't connect. Telepathy-butterfly just crashes in the background and then restarts automatically.
