Thanks for a bug report. The crash is intentional, when the creation on EShell fails. It prints the reason on the console, though the message is not part of your .xsession-errors. Could you run evolution from console and try to reproduce the issue, please? Then paste here the message with the reason of the object creation failure. Thanks in advance. Package: evolution-3.2.1-2.fc16 Architecture: x86_64 OS Release: Fedora release 16 (Verne) Comment ----- I had to force evolution to stop after it was hanging from a broken CalDav. I'm afraid it's because of the tracker plugin. If you uninstall tracker-evolution-plugin then it may start working properly. What is the exact message it claim on a console, when you run evolution from it, even out of gdb? That message may hint what is going wrong. I noticed one case, when other evolution is running, and I do not recall precisely, but I think it was when the already running evolution was a one before update of evolution package. No idea what's going on, the processs is listed in ps but no window appers! $ ps aux | grep evolution dario 1750 0.0 0.1 433968 13668 ? I search for one of my contact using the dash, then clicked on it. In the contact application, I clicked on the "email" icon of the contact email adress. Nothing appeared and Evolution was stalled. I had to force Evolution to quit. I can't reproduce it. backtrace_rating: 4 Package: evolution-3.2.3-2.fc16 OS Release: Fedora release 16 (Verne) Created attachment 573085 [details]

If you could run evolution from a terminal, and reproduce there the crash, then there might be also shown why it failed to run (the error comes from the application initialization). starting evolution backtrace_rating: 4 Package: evolution-3.4.1-2.fc17 OS Release: Fedora release 17 (Beefy Miracle) I was starting Evolution when the problem occurred. backtrace_rating: 4 Package: evolution-3.4.2-1.fc17 OS Release: Fedora release 17 (Beefy Miracle) Waiting for Evolution to load. I am using an EWS Exchange account backtrace_rating: 4 Package: evolution-3.2.3-3.fc16 OS Release: Fedora release 16 (Verne) I just tried to start "evolution" Note that my system suffers from bug 811902, so there might be something wonky in the dconf. Oh, I just noticed that an evolution instance popped up that I requested to be opened from the Shell calendar. It took a very good while though to appear. And it shows "Error loading Calendar - Timeout reached". So maybe my later requested Evolution from the command line doesn't like that fact that another instance was being spawned. backtrace_rating: 4 Package: evolution-3.4.4-1.fc17 OS Release: Fedora release 17 (Beefy Miracle) I don't know if it's the cause of this crash, but it happened after I've launched evolution, and, as the window did not appear (after 20 or 30 seconds), I've clicked on the evolution icon a second time. backtrace_rating: 4 Package: evolution-3.4.4-2.fc17 OS Release: Fedora release 17 (Beefy Miracle) It's basically it. The evolution aborts itself when there is another running, and that another is "unresponsive", as I understand it. if you run evolution from console you should also see the exact reason why evolution aborted, as it's printed there. I fixed this for evolution 3.7.1 and 3.6.2. In 3.7.1 is shown an error message in GUI, together with the system error why evolution failed to run. In 3.6.2 is only printed similar message into console, basically unnoticed by a user (the reason is a string freeze on gnome-3-6 branch). I can reproduce similar crash when I run evolution under gdb, and when it gets fully initialized (no operation in status bar), I break in gdb and then try to run evolution in another terminal, this time out of gdb. After some time I get this crash, and the system error for my test case is "Timeout was reached". Thinking of it, this crash is useless, because the real issue is another instance of evolution, why it doesn't respond (for me because I stopped it inside gdb). |
