Removing myself for these bug components as I'm either no longer involved in that aspect of the project, or no longer care to watch this particular bug. Sorry if you are caught in a maelstrom of bug changes as a result! Hi Peter, Thanks for raising this. This is certainly an issue when installing from a DVD alone with no access to online or networked repos. However, because the command you've provided is for that specific use case, I can't replace the original, more broadly applicable command. But naturally, it's a pertinent issue and may actually have broader implications in the guide than this one command. I will search the guide for any similar instances and determine how to accommodate both the broadly applicable and specific versions of the command. I'm reassigning this bug to the Deployment Guide. Documenting this specific application of yum install would be intrusive in the Installation Guide because the yum install and yum groupinstall commands are only dealt with in passing as part of other procedures. The Deployment Guide, however, devotes a section to yum install with '4.2.4. Installing Packages'. If the maintainers of the DG feel that this variation on the command would be a beneficial inclusion, this section would be a more logical home for it. Hello dnf has now replaced yum, and the section on installing packages is here: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/23/html/System_Administrators_Guide/sec-Installing.html I think we would need a new section on configuring an ISO as a repo, in order to explain this. I am not sure how important offline updates are for Fedora users. |
