Description mark gress 2011-11-23 00:02:02 UTC
Description of problem: "the following desktop effects could not be activated" is what I was greeted with after installation. Upon clicking the 'disable functionality checks' box under the advanced tab, things don't get rendered properly.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

xorg-x11-drv-ati.i686 6.14.2-2.20110727git8c9266ed2.fc16
kdebase.i686 6:4.7.3-1.fc16
kernel.i686 3.1.1-2.fc16

How reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open desktop effects system control panel
2. click the advanced tab, disable functionality checks
3. enable desktop effects

Actual results: The system isn't crashing, it just doesn't look right.

Expected results: It worked just fine in F15.

Additional info: All updates are applied. KDE, the ati driver, the kernel. There's no updates available on the servers. R200 radeon chip. See pngs. In the first screenshot, notice how the toolbar where it says "snapshot2.png" is pushed off to the right. The bottom bar is also pushed, down by "save as".

If I log off and log back in with effects disabled, everything looks fine.

That bar that is seen floating above the red 'quit' button is only there when I right click, and will appear anywhere on screen the tool tip appears/right click.

NWN, some textures do not render correctly. This has to be an extension of whatever's wrong with the driver.

I'm uploading these here, so I don't clutter up the bug tracker system with any more of what are surely duplicate bugs.

I already have a separate bug which most likely also stems from the video driver.

The walls and chairs. Also, it's stuck with a very dark gamma setting. Tried changing it but didn't work.

The other two scenes were relatively dark even when correctly rendered.

This is an outdoors scene, snow on the ground.

Comment 7 Fedora End Of Life 2013-01-16 14:01:13 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '16'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

Comment 8 Fedora End Of Life 2013-02-13 14:58:11 UTC
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
