Description David Botzer 2011-12-01 06:52:28 UTC
Description of problem:
When selecting all VMs in VMs Tab,
WPF should display the total number of selected VMs in the General Tab

-When a user want to know a total number of VMs, and they are not Pooled together
- The user would like to "sortby type" and count the total of each type

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
IC151,

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create several VMs, within a pool and single server/desktops
2.Select all or several VMs

Actual results:
cannot determine the total number of all or a selection of VMs

Expected results:
The user should be able to determine the total number of VMs

Comment 4 Einav Cohen 2012-12-17 20:52:05 UTC
- I suggest to not put the total number in the "General" sub-tab, as it is destined to display information only on a single selected item.

- See attached screen-shot: We already show the total number of selected items upon selection or de-selection of item(s) in the grid (as a tool-tip). I think that it is a sufficient.

thoughts?

Not good enough - it requires you to perform the selection.
Say I have a bookmark with a filter (Vms: name = ykaul-os*) - I'd like to see how many I have from this filter, without selecting all of them.

I don't think it should be displayed on the general subtab either.
Surprisingly, it looks like there's an indirect way to see the number - the number of VMs to show per page - if it's less than 100, it'll show how many you have, as it'll show "1-16" for example, if you have just 16 VMs shown... (next to the refresh button)

[removed virt from whiteboard - this is a general UI issue]

please read the description carefully:

"... should display the total number of *selected* VMs ..."
you will have to perform some kind of selection in order for it to be relevant.

(this is not about total items in the page (which is indeed a tweak) or total items in general, which is more complex).

Thanks.

back to my original question:

[Quoting Comment #4] See attached screen-shot (attachment 665117 [details]):

I agree, if we get more customer requests around it we can revisit.
