Did you run media check before attempting to do an install? This message is indicative of read failures due to bad media.

Comment 2 Robert Knight 2011-12-08 03:30:05 UTC
Yes, I did and they (both) reported OK to use. The G5's are, naturally, old, so the drives may be failing.

Wouldn't failing media produce the errors before the DVD is ejected?

Comment 3 Robert Knight 2011-12-15 15:33:52 UTC
Today, I burned a new DVD, and ran the media check on it. It was again rated OK to install. Next I did an text based installation so that I could easily switch between windows during a minimal install. Watching the console on which the I/O errors appear, I can report that there were no I/O errors reported until after the DVD was ejected at the final stage of the installation.

This appears to me to be a logical rather than physical error.

Comment 4 Chris Lumens 2011-12-15 17:02:37 UTC
See, this is the problem with these media read errors, though. When you did a text install, you caused different files to be loaded off the media which influenced the result. Also, unfortunately media check does an okay job but not necessarily a perfect job. It's more of a best effort attempt.

Comment 5 Robert Knight 2011-12-15 19:07:07 UTC
The same problem occurs with a graphical install. Since this is the third DVD all with the same problem, doesn't that point to another difficulty in the code rather than the media?
