If I login as root and run rhythmbox, it works. When I login as a mere mortal, it ALWAYS fails on gstreamer. 

If I start rhythmbox as a non root user via a terminal window, I get memory corruption errors from gstreamer.

This is on a 32 bit box. I believe I've tested this on a 64 bit box and it displays the same symptoms - root works nothing else does.

Yep, GCompise simply doesn't run on Fedora 16. That's too bad :(((

Using chmod +s /usr/libexec/gstreamer-0.10/gst-plugin-scanner for first run solve the crash when running Thunar. So after first run you can remove the execute as root permission.
