There should be a cancel button available while updating process is going on. Because if it takes a very long time to update, then the user is blocked from accessing the platform. And the progress bar should show x% of what(the total size of the update) has been downloaded, and an estimate of the time needed to download the update at that instant of time (depending upon the download speed at that instant of time).
