Description Peter Gervase 2011-12-12 15:42:00 UTC
1. Proposed title of this feature request
Configure email options for notifications from satellite.

2. Who is the customer behind the request?
Account name: David Gatto
Customer segment: 3
TAM/SRM customer: no
Strategic Customer yes/no: no

3. What is the nature and description of the request?
The customer wants to be able to configure how emails get sent out when there are errata notifications. He would set it to send one single email for each errata, rather than one email for each effected arch, but if it is at least configurable to that, then he'll be happy.

4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
We are receiving around 20 emails for some of the errata it is a little much, causing some of our customers to complain about it. It would be nicer to only receive 1 email for each errata that lists all of the affected systems/channels.

5. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)

Modify the notification process to (optionally?) send out 1 email per errata that lists all of the affected systems belonging to the email recipient.

6. For each functional requirement listed in question 4, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.

Once the functionality is implemented, verify that only 1 email is delivered for each errata and it lists all of the affected systems belonging to that person.

7. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat bugzilla?
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=751735 says that sending multiple emails is the intended method, but my customer doesn't like that and wants it at least to be configurable.

8. Does the customer have any specific timeline dependencies?
No specific timeline requirements.

9. Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?
no

10. List any affected packages
spacewalk-taskomatic

11. Would the customer be able to assist in testing this functionality if implemented?

They would be willing to test this.

The errata email notification work which is part of Satellite 6.1 will address this feature. Although the design of the implementation is unique to Satellite 6 (emails based on sync) the intention is the same as this Satellite 5.X feature. If there are still gaps in the feature, please open new RFE's against Satellite 6.

Now notifications emails can be setup for the following:
- Puppet error state
- Satellite promote errata
- Satellite Sync errata
- Puppet summary
- Satellite host advisory
