Comment 2 Steven Rostedt 2011-12-19 18:41:19 UTC
This warning is caused by the following line:

		/* Only need to warn if this is used to change the state */
		WARN_ONCE(1, "tracing_enabled is deprecated. Use tracing_on");

What used it? A user or a tool. The file /sys/debug/tracing/tracing_enabled is going away. It is much slower than tracing_on and it never did what it was intended to do. I added this warning to find those that are still using it so we can fix those tools and then eventually remove this file.

Comment 4 Steven Rostedt 2012-02-06 15:37:35 UTC
Note, Arjan (maintainer of latencytop) knows of this issue and has supposedly fixed the tool to not reference this file.
