If there is no /dev/sr0, then dracut cannot do anything about it. It's not detected by the kernel for some reason, I installed it via the installer and anaconda downloaded all the packages from network as it could not see the dvd either. Now in a running Fedora 16 environment, the cdrom is there. Perhaps a driver missing in the live kernel? From my running kernel: scsi 1:0:0:0: CD-ROM MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-8A8 HB14 PQ : 0 ANSI: 5 [ 4.977996] sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 24x/24x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray [ 4.978005] cdrom: Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20 [ 4.978267] sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 [ 4.978486] sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 5 kernel version 3.1.6-1.fc16.x86_64 (In reply to comment #2) > It's not detected by the kernel for some reason, I installed it via the > installer and anaconda downloaded all the packages from network as it could not > see the dvd either. > > Now in a running Fedora 16 environment, the cdrom is there. Perhaps a driver > missing in the live kernel? We had another case of that on a sony laptop. Some jmicron module had to be loaded before the CDROM would get probed. Dracut didn't have that in the livecd initramfs, so it wouldn't work. > From my running kernel: > > > scsi 1:0:0:0: CD-ROM MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-8A8 HB14 PQ > : 0 ANSI: 5 > [ 4.977996] sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 24x/24x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray > [ 4.978005] cdrom: Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20 > [ 4.978267] sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 > [ 4.978486] sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 5 > > kernel version 3.1.6-1.fc16.x86_64 Can you provide the output of lsmod now that you have it installed? Harald, this is likely going to wind up reassigned to dracut again to include whatever module is missing. [mass update] kernel-3.3.0-4.fc16 has been pushed to the Fedora 16 stable repository.
