Description gregrwm 2011-12-25 14:03:49 UTC
Description of problem:
see my 2 uploaded packagelists. in one, firefox segfaults at startup. in the other it's fine. so clearly, at least one of the packages added to the latter packageset is needed by firefox, and should be a dependency. (you can see the packages added by comparing the two packagesets with diff.)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
firefox-3.6.24-3.el6_1.x86_64

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install the "firefox-segfaults" packageset
2. launch vncserver with twm as window manager
3. launch firefox (inside vnc). it segfaults.
4. install additional packages in the "oknow" packageset.
3. launch firefox as before. it's ok now.

i've no idea whether vnc and/or twm play a part or are irrelevant.

Comment 5 Julio Entrena Perez 2012-02-22 11:38:12 UTC
Attempting to run Firefox remotely without any font package installed causes Firefox to segfault:

$ ssh -X root.3.4
root.3.4's password:
Last login: Wed Feb 22 10:55:04 2012 from 5.6.7.8
[root@hostname ~]# firefox

(firefox:2889): Pango-WARNING **: failed to choose a font, expect ugly output. engine-type='PangoRenderFc', script='common'
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: /bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally without any error message)
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Installing a font package solves the problem.

Firefox packages should have a generic dependency requiring a font package.

Comment 6 RHEL Program Management 2012-05-03 04:56:41 UTC
Since RHEL 6.3 External Beta has begun, and this bug remains
unresolved, it has been rejected as it is not proposed as
exception or blocker.

Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to
propose this request, if appropriate and relevant, in the
next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Comment 7 RHEL Program Management 2012-07-10 07:40:11 UTC
This request was not resolved in time for the current release.
Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to
propose this request, if still desired, for consideration in
the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Comment 9 RHEL Program Management 2012-07-10 23:13:22 UTC
This request was erroneously removed from consideration in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4, which is currently under development. This request will be evaluated for inclusion in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4.

Comment 11 Martin Stransky 2012-08-14 15:02:07 UTC
Which font packages are you missing? Do you mean:

liberation-fonts-common
liberation-sans-fonts

I don't see any other font packages there.

Comment 12 RHEL Program Management 2012-08-16 13:40:06 UTC
This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for
inclusion in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux release. Product
Management has requested further review of this request by
Red Hat Engineering, for potential inclusion in a Red Hat
Enterprise Linux release for currently deployed products.
This request is not yet committed for inclusion in a release.

Comment 13 Martin Stransky 2012-08-16 13:42:27 UTC
Added to git.

Comment 14 gregrwm 2012-08-17 01:16:29 UTC
all i can tell you, as in the original post, is that if you merely "yum install firefox" it segfaults, and if a bunch more packages are added it works. see the failing and succeeding package lists. commentor#5 changed the title asserting a font package was what was relevant.

Comment 15 Martin Stransky 2012-09-04 12:52:25 UTC
Should be fixed in RHSA-2012:1210.
