The USB disk was a Icy Box IB-318StU3-B (which has the crazy USB ID 1234:5678). It is a USB3 device plugged into a USB2 socket. It was plugged directly into an Intel DP55WB motherboard. # Mass update to all open bugs. Kernel 3.6.2-1.fc16 has just been pushed to updates. This update is a significant rebase from the previous version. Please retest with this kernel, and let us know if your problem has been fixed. The device presents itself as a printer and two DVD writers. It has an internal hub. The lp device becomes the next device number ie /dev/lp1. This device previously worked flawlessly with F14 and F15. It also works with RHEL5 and RHEL6. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Ask DVD robot to burn 50 discs 2. Wait until the device is offlined 3. Start DVD burning script again with different lp device node or reboot Actual results: Hub, DVD-ROM and printer device nodes all disappear due to the USB hub disappearing. The lp device comes back as the next device node /dev/lp1. This disrupts any scripts that are using /dev/lp0. The kernel error messages repeat forever, filling up the syslog. Expected results: The USB devices should stay connected and not go offline. Also they should keep their device nodes. Additional info: I'm also experiencing failures with my internal SATA controller whereby drives become unusable. I've currently got my HDDs in an external eSATA controller as the internal ports do not seem to work properly. I've attached syslog messages that show the problem in case it's related.
