Description Itamar Heim 2012-01-02 19:01:39 UTC
Description of problem:
a power user cannot see the ip of a newly created VM post boot (not a bug, simply not exposed in the extended view)

(actually, why not show it in the user portal details as well so users can rdp/ssh to the guest on their own rather than be forced to use spice?)

Comment 1 Itamar Heim 2012-12-16 06:57:19 UTC
Closing old bugs. If this issue is still relevant/important in current version, please re-open the bug.

Comment 2 David Kupka 2015-02-23 13:25:36 UTC
If user has access only to user portal it would be very handy to have IP address field similar to the 'IP Address' field in admin portal.
IFAIK, the only workaround is to use spice to connect to the VM and retrieve the IP address.

Hmm, User Portal in RHEV-M 3.5 shows IP addresses in 'Network Interfaces'->'Guest Agent Data' sub-tab but it is kind of undiscoverable.

Would it be possible to put list of IP addresses right below FQDN on 'General' tab so user do not have to click to get the IP address too many times?

Thank you!

Originally we wanted to make sure that the Admin is aware that guest IPs are provided by the guest agent, and as such - prone to spoofing by the guest. Exposing them in General may convey the wrong message as if they are controlled and enforced by oVirt.

Comment 7 Petr Spacek 2015-11-16 09:54:19 UTC
The same applies to FQDN and FQDN is exposed in User Portal for some time now. Having said that, I prefer to add IP address next to FQDN so all the information can be seen on one place.

What's the status in the new VM portal?

Comment 9 Tomas Jelinek 2017-11-21 12:27:11 UTC
it is the same: FQDN is shown and IP is not. It is tracked here: https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-web-ui/issues/307

closing this as upstream to have it tracked on one place only
