Description Adam Benjamin 2012-01-05 02:16:57 UTC
Created attachment 550794 [details]
output from xrandr -q --verbose

Description of problem:

When the monitor, a Dell ST2321L, is connected via a DVI or HDMI cable to the video card (reports itself as ATI Technologies Inc NI Caicos [AMD RADEON HD 6450] via lspci) and the power-save mode is invoked, the monitor does not go into power-save mode.

How reproducible:

blank the screen and tell the system to power the screen down.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. run "xset dmps force off"

Actual results:

Screen blanks. Monitor hardware shows pop-up saying it is going into blanking mode. Pop-up disappears. Backlight is still on, and power light is still "white." The pop-up is re-shown again every few seconds.

Expected results:

Screen blanks. Monitor hardware shows pop-up saying it is going into blanking mode. Pop-up disappears. Backlight turns off. Power light turns from white to amber.

Additional info:

This happens via either the HDMI or the DVI cable.

It does NOT happen with another monitor (19" Dell Flatpanel.)

It does NOT happen when the system is booted into Windows 7. It only happens under Fedora. ie. it is something specific to the driver and this monitor.

I forgot to mention that the Expected behaviour also DOES occur when connected to the video card via the VGA cable.

Comment 4 Adam Benjamin 2012-01-05 02:21:41 UTC
The undesired behaviour was confirmed to happen with a second Dell ST2321L monitor as well.

Comment 5 cje 2012-03-08 20:51:26 UTC
i'm seeing this with a (set of) dell u2410 connected to a HD 6770 as well.

power save works fine when connected to display port.

DVI1, DVI2 or HDMI either exhibit the exact same save/wake endless loop or just say they're going to sleep but don't.

connecting DVI to a samsung syncmaster 206bw appears to sleep correctly.

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2013-01-16 14:02:04 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '16'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

Comment 7 Fedora End Of Life 2013-02-13 14:59:00 UTC
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
