(In reply to comment #0) > this is a bug in Apple's CUPS software (bug id #7265420). As the Apple bug tracking system is not open to public I'm not able to find out which upstream (http://www.cups.org/str.php) bug this is (if there's any). So I have no idea how and when (in which cups version) this should be fixed. Created attachment 551143 [details]
Patch from upstream
Could it be this? For the waste report, at least -- not sure about the marker report without further investigation.
Yes, seems to be. So the problem should be already fixed in cups-1.5.0 as shipped with Fedora-16. Steve, could you try this scratch-build ? http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=3635603 Download all the rpm files for your architecture (x86_64) into one directory, install them with: su -c 'yum --nogpgcheck localupdate *.rpm' and restart cups service. I have since upgraded to Fedora 16-x86_64 but still see the problem. I have the following "cups" rpms: bluez-cups-4.96-3.fc16.x86_64 cups-1.5.0-22.fc16.x86_64 cups-libs-1.5.0-22.fc16.i686 cups-libs-1.5.0-22.fc16.x86_64 cups-pk-helper-0.1.3-3.fc16.x86_64 ghostscript-cups-9.04-7.fc16.x86_64 gutenprint-cups-5.2.7-7.fc16.x86_64 python-cups-1.9.60-1.fc16.x86_64 You may be seeing a stale "state reason" which is no longer being cleared. Please follow this procedure: 1. Stop cups: systemctl stop cups.path cups.socket cups.service 2. Edit /etc/cups/printers.conf and remove the line beginning "Reason " -- it will be between "<Printer ...>" and "</Printer>" for the queue(s) involved. 3. Start cups (systemctl start cups.service) systemctl start cups.path cups.socket cups.service Do you still see the problem? If so, please run the printing troubleshooter and attach the resulting troubleshoot.txt: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Printing/Debugging#Printing_troubleshooter This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '16'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping The new cups from apple works.
