X is crashing probably... often the GL (3D) screensavers cause this so you might try turning those off in Screensaver preferences as a workaround. 1) Your bug report includes a log file which indicates clearly that it is not an XFree86 that shipped with Red Hat Linux. We do not support software that we did not compile and ship. 2) the lengthy spew of minl()/moutl() debug info, was a bug in the Cirrus Logic driver that has been fixed now in Red Hat Linux 8.0, and is due to XFree86.org leaving debug info enabled in this driver by accident. A future erratum of XFree86 for Red Hat Linux 7.3 will also contain a fix for this problem. If you encounter problems while using XFree86 binaries from XFree86.org or home built binaries, please report bugs directly to XFree86.org, as Red Hat did not ship that. Closing as CURRENTRELEASE (8.0) for the debug issue, but the bug report would normally have gotten a NOTABUG since you've reported it against non Red Hat binary software. If you encounter the problem you describe while using Red Hat Linux 8.0, please open a new bug report, containing a file attachment of your X server log, and config file, as file attachments (please do not cut and paste huge logs or other items into the comment box). As stated in the origional bug report I was using a vanilla 7.3 release and it started failing randomly. As a last resort I tried installing the new X release hoping that it would fix the problem. No luck. So, yes, I committed the heinous sin of using non-redhat binaries, but that doesn't change the fact that the origional driver was from 7.3 and you still have a bug for 7.3 and should release a fix for it via up2date. I cannot update easily to 8.0. I'm in Antarctica at the end of a very thin pipe and it would take weeks to download 8.0. (definitely try just disabling the GL/3D screensavers) Sorry to hear that you don't have spiffy Internet access. As I stated however, the Cirrus logic driver *IS* fixed to remove the debug information spew in Red Hat Linux 8.0, and as I also stated, this fix *WILL* be made available as erratum at some point in the future for 7.3 as well. It will not under any circumstance be released 10 minutes from now, just because someone doesn't have a fast internet connection however, so reopening this bug report which is already fixed and resolved is not going to accelerate anything happening. I'm re-closing this bug report as fixed in 8.0, once again with the stipulation that erratum WILL be released for 7.3 in the future. Do NOT reopen the bug report. It will not speed anything up, and infact just wastes my time. |
