The publish.sh / unpublish.sh scripts in the modeshape  pub_unpub example needs to be executable (shouldn't need have chmod done in order to run).

Also, the Teiid simpleclient run.sh script also needs to be set to executable.

The eds kitting step wasn't retaining using the filemode option to retain the file attributes.
