Description of problem:

In the GNOME nautilus file browser that comes with version 6.2 of RHEL, I cannot set any "colors" in my nautilus windows. This is also true with "patterns."

If I go and set a color via the menu

Edit -> Backgrounds and Preferences

It changes the color or the pattern I select in the nautilus window But when the window is closed and then re-opened the window background color is always white no matter what.

I also tried setting this via gconf at:

apps/nautilus/preferences/background_color

and

apps/nautilus/preferences/background_set

but this did not work either. This is what I did before in RHEL 5 to obtain the desired effect...

I also created a ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file and tried various things in it and nothing
seems to work. I can change the colors of various parts of nautilus windows such as the so called "nautilus-statusbar" But I cannot change the background colors of the actual gadget where the icons are displayed.

My goal was to be able to have a black background in nautilus windows
instead of white that persist but this seems to be impossible which has to be a bug, yes? I made a set of icons for some app launchers that works well with a black background in RHEL 5 and they look very ugly on a white background in RHEL 6.

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open nautilus window. Go to Edit -> Backgrounds and Emblems...
2. Drag color (any) to window. Watch it change colors.
3. Close window. Open same Window.

Actual results:

Color is now white instead of what you seletcted. Icon text colors may be messed up also now if you picked a darkish color. (kind of like white on white)

Expected results:
Should have same color you selected before and it should survive window closings and end of session/new session like it did in RHEL 5.

Additional info:

Let me know if there is something I could put in my .gtkrc-2.0 to get around this?
