Description Pander 2012-01-31 21:30:05 UTC
Description of problem:
Both packages hwdata and usbutils ship usb.ids files and both ship different versions of this file.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
hwdata 0.227 and usbutils 0.87

How reproducible:
Install both packages and diff the files usb.ids from these packages
$ diff /usr/share/hwdata/usb.ids /usr/share/misc/usb.ids

Actual results:
Files /usr/share/hwdata/usb.ids and /usr/share/misc/usb.ids differ.

Expected results:
These files should be identical or one package should use the file of the other package directly of via a soft link. Also the package shipping this file should be upgraded with the latest ids.

Additional info:
See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hwdata/+bug/726202 and report how this will be fixed also there.

Comment 1 Karsten Hopp 2012-02-07 12:06:58 UTC
Fedora doesn't have /usr/share/misc/usb.ids, hwdata is the only package that provides usb.ids.
Our latest usbutils as of today has these files:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/rpminfo?rpmID=2900329

Ubuntu needs to decide which usb.ids they want to keep and just drop the other one during packaging.
