Description of problem:
G200e video, Philips 170S monitor: attempt to change from 1024x768 to 896x672 (next highest resolution advertised in gnome-display-properties) fails

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-2.6.18-308.el5
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.1.1-48.90.el5
xorg-x11-drv-mga-1.4.13-5.el5

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run "gnome-display-properties"
2. Change the "Resolution" selection from "1024x768" to "896x672" (or, for that matter, "960x600")
3. Click the "Apply" button.

Actual results:
Error message, presumably monitor-generated:
ATTENTION SIGNAL
CANNOT DISPLAY THIS VIDEO
MODE,CHANGE COMPUTER DISPLAY
INPUT TO 1280X1024@60HZ

Expected results:
896x672

Additional info:
960x600 (3rd on the list) also fails, but 832x624 (4th on the list) works.

Both of the resolutions that fail both offer only 60 Hz refresh rates; both of the ones that work offer 75 Hz. Not sure it matters, but

On the assumption that the error is in unavailable resolutions being advertised, rather than a more general failure of screen resolution changes, I'm inclined to assume that this is a relatively minor bug that can wait until 5.9, but I'm going to let others make that decision.

Both 896x672 and 960x600 in that list are doublescan modes, which are basically useless for server chips. Should just turn that off.

Comment 4 RHEL Program Management 2012-06-12 01:33:41 UTC
This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for
inclusion in the current release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Because the affected component is not scheduled to be updated in the
current release, Red Hat is unfortunately unable to address this
request at this time. Red Hat invites you to ask your support
representative to propose this request, if appropriate and relevant,
in the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Comment 6 Adam Jackson 2013-11-05 19:11:48 UTC
No further X driver updates are planned for RHEL5.
