Description Rolle 2012-02-11 21:49:24 UTC
Description of problem:
I have the flatbed-scanner "Epson Perfection V300".
lsusb:
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 04b8:0131 Seiko Epson Corp. Perfection V300

I use Gnome3 but my favorite scan-app is the KDE-App "scangui" (the german name "Bilder scannen"). But after I used that and closed that I can't turn of the scanner. To turn off I must press a button on the scanner for 3 secs and then it must be turn off, but it didn't. So I think after closing the "scangui" the usb-connection still remains and so the scanner doesn't turn off.
All other scan-apps doesn't show that problem. After these scan-apps I can turn off the scanner.
So I have two choices:
1. disconnect the usb-cable and turn the scanner off
or
2. start afterwards another scan-app and close them, so then I can turn off the scanner

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 16 (64 Bit), Gnome 3.2.1, KDE "scangui" 2.5.0 (KDE 4.7.4) doesn't work, scanner-driver "iscan.x86_64 2.28.0-2.ltdl7"
Scan-Apps that handle the situation correct: xsane frontend 0.998, "Image Scan!" 2.28 (iscan) from Epson,

How reproducible:
every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. turn on scanner "Epson Perfection V300"
2. start KDE "scangui"
3. close KDE "scangui"
4. try to turn off the scanner with the scanner-powerbutton 3 secs pressed

Actual results:
scanner remains on

Expected results:
scanner turn off

Additional info:
If I start KDE "scangui" before the scanner is turned on a dialog appears, that no scanner is found. And then I turn on the scanner, I press the scangui-button "reload devicelist" (in german "Geräteliste neu laden") the app doesn't make a full new scan and so it doesn't find the scanner. I have to close "scangui" and restart it while the scanner is already turned on.

"Simple Scan" 3.2.0 works also perfectly

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2013-01-16 16:11:25 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '16'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2013-02-13 19:36:51 UTC
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
