Description Lee Sheridan 2002-12-09 22:51:14 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20021007
Debian/1.1-1

Description of problem:
The manpage for rhn_register says:

rhn_register use a http based protocol for communication
with Red Hat Network, so if you are behind web proxy, you
may need to configure the proxy support before you can
       proceed.

By this description, rhn_register should work behind my firewall which only
allows outbound http (80/tcp), but I am seeing denied traffic over https
(443/tcp). The manpage and other related documention should be more clear about
this.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run rhn_update on a firewall blocking everything outbound but 80/tcp
2.
3.

Reassigning to owner of rhn_register

Also, when you run rhn_register --configure this needs to be addressed. I had a
http proxy in the box that says "Enable HTTP Proxy:" but didn't realise my
network server to use box had https://

It constantly failed piping the ssl requests through my http proxy. I would
suggest adding another box here that says enable https proxy, that way it will
be clear to people like me who need a http proxy but not a https proxy.

this was on the phoebe beta.

Comment 3 Adrian Likins 2004-09-02 21:17:08 UTC
man page should be fixed in 2.9.13
