after you fill a password in account settings tab in "new staff" portlet you can move on to "user profile" to add more details about user. when you click on the "account settings" tab again, the password fields are blank (in IE8, FF3.6 on linux is fine).
password field resets (gets blank) when traversing from "user profile" back to "account settings".

after save, the user is saved correctly (with the password which was there before).
