messages of the live-cd boot

Description of problem:

When booting the KDE live-cd of F17 Alpha TC2, the message (or part of it):

intel ips 0000:00:1f.6: CPU TDP doesn't match expected value (found 25, expected 29)
intel ips 0000:00:1f.6: failed to get i915 symbols, graphics turbo disabled
intel ips 0000:00:1f.6: IPS driver initialized, MCP temp limit 90

Can be seen in the console before switching to graphics mode (strange, plymouth should have set it before.. but nevethles, is that intel message a performance feature that is disabled?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
F17aTC2
kernel 3.3.0-0.rc3.git5.1.fc17.x86_64

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot with an arrandale intel laptop (mine is dell e4310)
2. the error is show in the console, it does not interrupt booting in any way,
at least when i tested. i am able to reach KDE (after some other issue).

Comment 3 Adam Jackson 2012-04-09 21:44:39 UTC
That message is harmless, it's just caused by ordering issues. The ips driver is built into the kernel but requires functionality from the i915 driver which is modular. You can see the feature re-enabled later in the log:

[ 59.820433] intel ips 0000:00:1f.6: i915 driver attached, reenabling gpu turbo

I'll send a patch upstream to fix the message severity.

Comment 4 Adam Jackson 2012-04-09 21:45:42 UTC
Actually, intel_ips isn't built in, it's also modular, but the ordering issue remains.
