Description of problem:
With an Asus EEE PC 1215N, the brightness controls work fine.
Except, if the laptop is shut down with brightness in the middle - not maxed, 
at next reboot, that level becomes the maximum possible value..

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use laptop for a while, reduce brightness using  Fn-F5.. 
2. Shutdown
3. At reboot, the maximum brightness possible will be the one that was set earlier.

Hi Turgut,

Does the same problem occur if you control the backlight using the function keys (Fn-whichever the key is on your laptop)?

As far as I can tell, xbacklight doesn't really do anything special on its own, so this might be a bug better suited to kernel developers.

Hello. Yes, I solely use the function keys to adjust the brightness.
Both for dimming it prior to shutdown, and for trying to brighten it afterwards..

They buttons are both registered. That is, I get the brightness adjustment logo on screen and a bar underneath when I push these buttons.  However, the maximum brightness I can achieve is determined by which brightness level I leave the machine at before prior shutdown.

no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
