Different from bug #803907 in that there's no beep when I type. Seeing this again for the last few days. Can you switch VTs ? Seemingly an X issue. Peter, any ideas? Happened again today. Cannot switch VTs. The keyboard seems completely locked. For example pressing numlock does not change the numlock indicator state. GDM is otherwise responsive to the mouse. I usually use the mouse to suspend the machine. After resuming the machine (using the power button) I'm returned to the GDM login screen and the keyboard is responsive. It seems that this workaround always works. if you ssh in from another machine and run the chvt command twice (switch to a different VT, then switch back) does the keyboard start working again? Can you post /var/log/Xorg.0.log when the problem happens ? can I get the Xorg.log please? also, do you see the same behaviour when starting in to the multi-user.target and then start X manually with startx? This happens in batches (for the last six months or so), and for the last few days it hasn't manifested itself. Will get this info when it happens again. Created attachment 584093 [details]
Xorg.0.log from when the problem is happening
This was scp'd from the machine while GDM was unresponsive to the keyboard.
(In reply to comment #6) > if you ssh in from another machine and run the chvt command twice (switch to a > different VT, then switch back) does the keyboard start working again? If I change VT (via chvt while ssh'd in) I still cannot type at the keyboard whether at the text VT or at GDM. stab in the dark: same issue if you use qwerty instead of dvorak? I updated to a partial rawhide and this no longer happens. Although gnome-shell is no longer being used at the gdm login screen, so it may be that my system is atypical. I also tried using qwerty in xorg.conf instead of dvorak, and for a couple weeks the problem didn't occur. However I've had similar blocks of time when using the keyboard at the GDM login screen worked. I'll let you know if this happens again. Confirming that with qwerty in xorg.conf this problem has not happened again. I am seeing same symptoms on an FC16 desktop install at home. I sure never enabled explicitly dvorak; ssh works fine, will try the other suggestions tonight and send all info I can find Ok, so I tried chvt and I issued telinit 3; then I issued startx from a user account, and everything works properly. It looks like it is a problem with gdm. I am trying to update to FC17 to see if it makes a difference; at least I shall report against the latest version available. Xorg.0.log
Ok, so this is from an upgrade to FC17 from the same machine. This is really really annoying; none of the other suggestions work, except maybe for going to initlevel 3 and doing startx from the command line (something I can do, but not the rest of my family). Any ideas? (Short of reinstalling?) Any further info needed? Thanks Salvatore Just in case... [root@localhost ~]# uname -a Linux localhost.localdomain 3.5.3-1.fc17.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Aug 29 18:46:34 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '17'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. Fedora 17 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-07-30. Fedora 17 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. |
