Sounds like a radeon 3d bug. Is this related to the issue #813949 ? I suspect they are mostly the same. My RV280 card ["Radeon 9250" or "9200 Pro"] is using "Kernel driver in use: radeon" [according to "lspci -vv"]. The card in bug #813949 is a Radeon Mobility 7500 that is using radeonfb [note the "fb" suffix] and apparently is also using "nomodeset" on the kernel boot command line. So those two items are different. However, both CPU are Apple PowerPC 32-bit, and both are big-endian. I'm willing to bet that big-endian is at least part of the problem. So that is related. (In reply to comment #3) > My RV280 card ["Radeon 9250" or "9200 Pro"] is using "Kernel driver in use: > radeon" [according to "lspci -vv"]. So those two items are > different. I've got both issues - from this ticket and from that one. Mine system is Mac Mini G4. So I'm almost sure these tickets are related. I'm surprized that you didn't see lockups after several minutes of work (as described in #813949) - that's the only reason I'm still in doubts regarding whether these are connected.. I do see lockups (again, I do not change any default configuration such as nomodeset or kernel driver), but on the bug report scale they are low in quality because they are time dependent and not "crisp". In particular, enlarging a Terminal window by dragging a corner often causes a lockup within a few seconds, but sometimes it works! Also, changing the stacking order of multiple Terminal windows often causes a lockup. I get around this by using only one Terminal, and no other graphical apps at the same time. I also do most of my work via ssh into this box from somewhere else. Also note that Xfce Session displays blue OK; the lack of blue is specific to gdm and Gnome3 desktop. So that is simpler, and perhaps even a clue. This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '17'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 23 development cycle. Changing version to '23'. (As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 23 development cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 23 End Of Life. Thank you.) More information and reason for this action is here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping/Fedora23 This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '23'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. Fedora 23 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2016-12-20. Fedora 23 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. |
Created attachment 575829 [details] /var/log/Xorg.0.log Description of problem: The blue component is missing in the background wallpaper for Fedora 17 (night sky, star field, fireworks bursts) under gdm greeter and Gnome desktop on G4 PowerPC Apple Macintosh Mini. The background of the sky is pure black; the white fireworks burst appears yellow, the magenta burst appears green, the white-blue burst appears dark burnt orange. The colors are correct in Xfce session. When the screen is first drawn in graphics mode at boot, and when awakening from sleep, then an extra pass of full-screen blue appears briefly very early. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): mesa-dri-drivers-8.0.1-2.fc17.ppc xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.14.3-11.20120206git36c190671.fc17.ppc xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.11.99.901-6.20120124.fc17.ppc kernel-3.3.0-1.fc17.ppc How reproducible: always Steps to Reproduce: 1. boot Fedora 17 on G4 PowerPC Apple Machintosh Mini 2. login 3. Actual results: blue is missing from background of gdm greeter and Gnome desktop. Blue is present in Xfce session. Expected results: Blue is present in background of gdm greeter and Gnome desktop.
