Expected results:
#osinfo-detect /home/mike/image/ubuntu-10.04.4-server-amd64.iso 
Media is bootable.
Media is an installer for OS 'Ubuntu XXXXX'
Media is live media for OS 'XXXX'

$ osinfo-detect /home/mike/image/ubuntu-10.04.4-server-i386.iso 
Media is bootable.
Media is an installer for OS 'Ubuntu XXXXX'
Media is live media for OS 'XXXX'

Additional info:
ubuntu 11.04 ,11.10 does not hit this issue

libosinfo-0.1.2-1.fc17 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 17.

* should fix your issue,
* was pushed to the Fedora 17 testing repository,
* should be available at your local mirror within two days.
Update it with:
# su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing libosinfo-0.1.2-1.fc17'
as soon as you are able to.
