Just found: https://live.gnome.org/GnomeOS/Design/Whiteboards/Scrolling Let me explain exactly what I do which causes problems. I generally sort e-mail (evolution) by date with the oldest at the bottom. I can then click in the 'trough' (I think i'm using the right word) a couple of times to get the the 'beginning' of my new e-mails. Now what I do is start at the oldest 'unread' e-mail and read the ones I care the most about, skipping those I don't care about. When I look at the last on the page I want to be able to 'scroll down' to see the next page of messages. I cannot click and hold on the indicator and drag it down, because the granularity if WAY too many lines of e-mails. I cannot click in the tough below the scroller because it is too small. If I had a scroll wheel I could use that, but I don't have a working scroll wheel. If I have something highlighted in the correct pane I can use up/down pageup/pagedown but then I risk accidentally marking an e-mail as read (it does so if it is in the preview pane too long) even though I'm really just trying to scroll. Does that make sense? Create a really really long list of items, scan the last 100 items in the list. It's really really hard without arrows.....
