Description jeff 2012-04-26 11:47:32 UTC
Description of problem:
The minimum memory requirement doesn't make sense for LXDE and possibly other small footprint spins of fedora

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. get machine with less than 768mb of ram
2. try to install
3. get error message

Actual results:
cannot install fedora

Expected results:
fedora should be installable

Additional info:
the minimum memory requirement makes sense for e gnome desktop, but not for a lxde desktop. There are many older computers that do not have 768mb or more, but can still run fedora. This will not help fedora with total world domination.

The amount of space required to perform a graphical installation is different than the amount required to /run/ that installed system.

Many factors go into this, such as what method of install (http vs nfs vs DVD vs Live), what the total package set is and what the rpm dependencies of those are.

Anaconda memory usage spiked in Fedora 16 and we're working to bring it down for f17, but we have not yet determined our total memory requirements.

As such, I don't really think this is a bug report we can do anything about. 16 is already released and we're already working to lower the requirements for f17.
