What I get in the shell is something else: Refusing to render service to dead parents. Tracked this down to the fact that gnome-shell double-forks when launching apps. Patch at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=675789 I can reproduce the problem with alt-f2 in Shell and from the menus in fallback mode, but not from the overview in Shell. mclasen: I suspect the bug initially reported - it fails to run from the menus in fallback mode - is not the same as the bug you refer to upstream... I don't know, I haven't tried in fallback mode. Possible that gnome-panel has the same issue when launching applications. I did not think to report it, but the problem was in fallback mode. I am not seeing it in "normal" (non-fallback) mode for Gnome. I am experiencing the same issue in fallback mode. It doesn't prompt for authentication like other system apps. in Fallback mode I was able to su at a terminal, NOT su - then run gnome-system-log and it worked... This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '17'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Fedora 17 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.
