The component you specified is wrong since you use GRUB 0.97 and not GRUB2 Fixed component. Thanks for the quick response. I went through the installation process again and there is no option for me to choose GRUB or GRUB2. I tried to customize the packages and all I can select are those optional packages, I can't modify those "core" packages. I'm not sure what I can do at this point other than go back to the BIOS mode. Any suggestion? Thanks again for all the helps. anaconda.log and program.log might tell what went wrong - you could try to attach them here. Created attachment 588684 [details]
Anaconda Logs.
Please attach logs as individual text/plain files (everything in /tmp/*log), this make is easier to view them and search them. Created attachment 589260 [details]

without knowing grub legacy and what to look for I notice the following which seems suspicious to me: 10:07:44,711 INFO storage: bootloader stage1 target device is sda1 10:07:44,714 INFO storage: bootloader stage2 target device is sda2 10:07:45,876 INFO storage: bootloader.py: used boot args: rd.md=0 rd.dm=0 rd.lvm.lv=vg_arnoldw/lv_swap KEYTABLE=us rd.lvm.lv=vg_arnoldw/lv_root rd.luks=0 ro root=/dev/mapper/vg_arnoldw-lv_root SYSFONT=True LANG=en_US.UTF-8 rhgb quiet 10:07:45,876 ERR storage: failed to create grub menu.lst symlink: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted 10:07:45,884 WARN storage: Storage.writeKS not completely implemented and device (hd0,1) HD(1,800,64000,6f07d705-ee3a-4e1e-8280-5dba3e44681c) I have a Dell Lattitude E6410. 8Gb RAM I've just upgraded from FEDORA 15 to Fedora 17. I used preupgrade. The upgrade worked OK. Booting the machine after the upgrade was not successful. I then tried a fresh install DVD and I could boot the machine after the install completed.. After a "yum upgrade" I could not boot the machime with the updated kernel The two kernels are different: 3.3.4-5.fc17.x86_64 (Installed after the fresh install) 3.4.4-5.fc17.x86_64 (Installed after yum update) So my question is: if one allows the machine to boot and the other does not.... Whats the difference between the two? Not sure if I am using efi... Just took the defaults. *** Bug 827726 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** This model seems to have some serious issues - e.g. bug 810888. This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '17'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. Fedora 17 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-07-30. Fedora 17 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. |
