Description of problem:
I attempted to find a printer with 'System Settings'->'Printers' by address, but no printers appeared and adding the printer's address in the address field did not help.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fully updated Fedora 17.  I do not know what package provides this functionality, but I'd be happy to query for the version if someone can tell me the package name.

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start firewalld (not sure if that's required, but I had it running)
2. Try to add a printer by address.
  
Actual results:
No printer found

Expected results:
Printer added

Additional info:
system-config-printer succeeded in adding the printer without any problems.  I chose system-config-printer as the component as I figured that would get the BZ assigned to the right group, but that's actually the component that solved my problem.

The printer is on another network from my workstation.

I see no debug information that might be helpful, if there is anything I can provide, please let me know.

It's control-center. Reassigning.

No, it's not required.
Make sure firewall is off (service firewalld stop; service iptables stop),
try to use the GNOME control-center again and let us know.

after service firewalld stop; service iptables stop I am able to add a printer by address.

Hi Dave,

by which service is the printer provided? Is it IPP, MDNS or just a network printer (SNMP)? Which port does it use?

Er, I'm not sure?  OMG, the control-center is too user friendly!  ;)

How do I tell which connection method control-center picked?

It should be enough to run "lpstat -s" and past here result of the line which contains the printer you've added. Also, could you past here address you've filled in the address field? If you don't want to make this information public, you can send it to my email.

Using Fedora 18 Beta, it isn't still possible to add new network printer from gnome control center.

Search field remaining blank.

No problem with system-config-printer.

control-center.x86_64          3.6.3-1.fc18

This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 
'version' of '17'.

Fedora 17 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-07-30. Fedora 17 is 
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further 
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of 
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

My experience with adding printers in F19 has been extremely positive; I've added several printers and the process has been flawless.  Thanks for some really nice work in this area.
