Description of problem:
Current documentation of Fedora 17 upgrade process is seriously misleading. Following it results in broken systems.

Please see Bug 820351. Current documentation recommends as first preference upgrading via DVD. Nowhere is it mentioned that the updates repo must be enabled for this to succeed, otherwise the result is a broken yum configuration taking guru-level expertise to unravel. A similar level of brokenness prevails for preupgrade. It seems that the only currently-reliably-working upgrade method is via yum, yet yum upgrade is damned with faint praise in the installation guide "Upgrading directly from one release to the next using yum is not explicitly tested by Fedora QA and issues with them are not considered blockers for a release".

Thanks for reporting this, Bob. However, with the new fedup utility in Fedora 18 replacing both preupgrade and the facility to upgrade with the DVD, these issues with those two methods are now moot.

If similar or other issues arise with fedup, please open a new bug.
