Description David A. De Graaf 2012-06-21 19:33:19 UTC
Description of problem:
r8712u.ko is missing

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kmod-staging-3.4.2-1.fc16.x86_64.x86_64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Do yum update, getting new kernel-3.4.2-1.fc16.x86_64 and kmod-staging-3.4.2-1.fc16.x86_64.x86_64
2. On reboot, see that wireless interface is gone.
3.

Actual results:
r8712u.ko module is no longer available

Expected results:
r8712u.ko module must be available

Additional info:
For those of us with an RNX-N180UBE usb wireless adapter as the only means of connecting to the network, the r8712u driver module is a necessity. It has worked well over the past several kernel releases, and on this basis I've bought several more of these good quality 802.11-n devices. Suddenly this essential driver is gone and I'm incommunicado.

# l /lib/modules
3.3.6-3.fc16.x86_64/ 3.3.7-1.fc16.x86_64/ 3.4.2-1.fc16.x86_64/
# find /lib/modules -name "r8712u*"
/lib/modules/3.3.6-3.fc16.x86_64/extra/staging/r8712u.ko
/lib/modules/3.3.7-1.fc16.x86_64/extra/staging/r8712u.ko

but nothing in 3.4.2-1.fc16.x86_64/ so the 3.4.2-1.fc16.x86_64 kernel cannot be used.

Please tell me this was a simple oversight, and r8712u.ko will be restored ASAP.

The kmod-staging package is provided by rpmfusion, you can file a bug wih them at https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/buglist.cgi?product=Fedora&component=staging-kmod&resolution=---
