I have a test with the following code: InetAddress group = InetAddress.getByName("224.0.1.106"); int port = 23364; String data = "1234567890"; byte[] buffer = data.getBytes(); DatagramPacket recv = new DatagramPacket(buffer, buffer.length, group, port); s.send(recv); It throws: +++ java.io.IOException: Invalid argument at java.net.PlainDatagramSocketImpl.send(Native Method) at java.net.DatagramSocket.send(DatagramSocket.java:676) +++ The work-around it used "FFFF::224.0.1.106" which means that the java.net.preferIPv4Stack is ignored.... It have tried with -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true and static { System.setProperty("java.net.preferIPv4Stack", "true"); } No way to get it. When using java directly it works.
