vim-7.3.944-1.fc17 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 17. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/vim-7.3.944-1.fc17 Package vim-7.3.944-1.fc17: * should fix your issue, * was pushed to the Fedora 17 testing repository, * should be available at your local mirror within two days. Update it with: # su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing vim-7.3.944-1.fc17' as soon as you are able to. Please go to the following url: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2013-8218/vim-7.3.944-1.fc17 then log in and leave karma (feedback). I doubt this is fixed, since there is no way how to fix it, because RPM/YUM cannot express this dependency. I.e. if vim and ruby-libs are installed, it should be ensured, that also rubygems are installed. I would prefer to keep it open. vim-7.3.944-1.fc17 has been pushed to the Fedora 17 stable repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report. Looking through the VIM changelog I do not see any reference to this bug being fixed. Looks like a blind closing by the maintainer especially since they did not respond to comment 3. Reopening. Wouldn't it make more sense for ruby to depend on rubygems if it needs it rather than vim? (In reply to Michael Cronenworth from comment #5) You are right Michael, that this is definitely not resolved. I was thinking about reopening the issue myself, but since there is no solution, I decided not to do so. If you read my initial comment, you'll see, that I had made ruby requiring rubygems at one point in time, but I was later convinced to revert that change. Actually, there is now ongoing related discussion on fedora-devel ML with regards to software management [1]. You can try to bring this case to the eyes of packaging guys. I tried that already [2], but it doesn't to be on their agenda anytime soon, if ever :/ [1] http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2013-May/183167.html [2] http://lists.rpm.org/pipermail/rpm-maint/2013-April/003542.html This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '17'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 23 development cycle. Changing version to '23'. (As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 23 development cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 23 End Of Life. Thank you.) More information and reason for this action is here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping/Fedora23 fixed in 7.4.927: patch 7.4.927 Problem: Ruby crashes when there is a runtime error. Solution: Use ruby_options() instead of ruby_process_options(). (Damien) that's upstream version 7.4.927, new Fedora packages with this patch will be available soon vim-7.4.1718-1.fc22 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 22. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-9097b02af0 vim-7.4.1718-1.fc23 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 23. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-f71c5f7cb9 vim-7.4.1718-1.fc24 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 24. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-0d9deaf262 vim-7.4.1718-1.fc22 has been pushed to the Fedora 22 testing repository. You can provide feedback for this update here: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-f71c5f7cb9 (In reply to Karsten Hopp from comment #11) > that's upstream version 7.4.927, new Fedora packages with this patch will be > available soon Karsten, I tested the updated VIM (vim-enhanced-7.4.1718-1.fc25.x86_64) and it indeed does not segfault, but this is still suboptimal, since executing ":ruby puts RUBY_VERSION" still outputs error: <internal:gem_prelude>:4:in `require': cannot load such file -- rubygems.rb (LoadError) from <internal:gem_prelude>:4:in `<internal:gem_prelude>' Since RPM + DNF now handles conditional dependencies, would you mind to consider to use "Requires: rubygems if ruby-libs" or something similar? The funny thing is that running this from command line: vim -c ":ruby puts RUBY_VERSION" -c ":q" Outputs "2.3.0" without any complains. vim-7.4.1718-1.fc23 has been pushed to the Fedora 23 stable repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report. vim-7.4.1718-1.fc24 has been pushed to the Fedora 24 stable repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report. vim-7.4.1718-1.fc22 has been pushed to the Fedora 22 stable repository.
