Interesting bit from program log: 16:52:26,736 ERR program: wipefs: error: /dev/sdb1: probing initialization failed: No such file or directory

Comment 15 Luke Macken 2012-11-22 23:53:39 UTC
Tried wiping the existing ntfs partition and install the default partition layout with F18 TC9

Package: anaconda-18.29-1.fc18.i686
Architecture: i686
OS Release: Fedora release 18

Comment 16 Kamil Páral 2012-12-06 11:03:09 UTC
I tried to verify bug 882147. I booted netinst, hand-picked dvd.iso on vda1. Then went into partitioning screen. I had too little space available, I hit Reclaim space. A dialog was presented, but vda1 could not be deleted nor shrunk, the buttons were greyed out (so far so good). I hit Cancel (the only way to bail out), arrived into main hub. I went into partitioning again and repeated the procedure, but this time I was able to delete vda1 - the buttons were now active. So I deleted it and started the installation. It crashed in Preparing to install.

Package: anaconda-18.36
OS Release: Fedora release 18

Comment 18 Petr Schindler 2012-12-11 14:05:48 UTC
I tried to install system on the flash disk with installation source.

Anaconda shouldn't offer flash disk from which is running (from which the anaconda runs) as a destination for new system.

This is thing which could confuse common users (and as I understand to it, that is your target group).

Package: anaconda-18.37
OS Release: Fedora release 18

How did you prepare the install media?

Comment 22 Petr Schindler 2012-12-14 07:49:37 UTC
I used dd.

Comment 23 Reartes Guillermo 2012-12-23 19:16:02 UTC
ok, several things were wrong here.

the disk has a msdos disklabel with a previous fedora on it.
i booted anaconda in UEFI mode.

Manual partitioning was not usable with this setup. It seems it
could not tell me to 'either boot me in bios mode' or offer
me the option to wipe & switch the partiton table. (i do remeber
opening a bugreport for this in the past, i will look into it later).

Then i selected 'delete' for al partitons in automatic partitioning.

Additionally i was able to use an INVALID nfs installation source.
I am running anconda x86_64 but i was able to start installing
with the i386 sources... an 'please verify' showed up in software
selection, but i fooled it by just re-selecting a package group.

Comment 24 David Filiatrault 2013-01-06 14:38:20 UTC
1. Had a 16GB Flash drive installed with the FC18 Beta where I had choosen the defaults for partitioning
2. Decided to reinstall, so booted install media
3. Selected custom partitioning, deleted previous paritions.
4. Started with defaults, then changed root partition to 6GB.
5. After exiting partitioning, bug occurred

I've tried to install Fedora 18 with manual partitioning option (with single root partition, without swap, replacing previous partition).

Comment 27 Tobi Omole 2013-02-23 10:11:08 UTC
So, wanted to install Fedora Linux on my machine, burned an empty disc and loaded it
up via my UEFI bios, all went fine, I verified and booted Fedora and it opened up
beautifully, I selected the Live System User which was fine too, now I wanted
to install directly to my harddrive so I went on and clicked that option,
Anaconda opened up and I was told to select my language, timezone and the disk
I wanted to install to, it's a 500GB Toshiba external Harddrive.
I selected the Standard Partition type and and clicked continue.
I deleted both my partitions I had on there and continued
(The External Harddrive was EMPTY is that helps.) Now it said it was verifying
and I couldn't go any futher untill that was done, so I waited after a few
seconds it was done and I clicked continue, that's when this error came up,
the anaconda install screen is dark and it shows USER SETTINGS under that ROOT
PASSWORD with a red danger triangle and under that it says Root password is not set.
At the bottom it says Preparing to install with a progress bar and futher
down it says ''Please complete items marked with this icon before continuing
to the next step.'' next to another danger triangle.
The error itself says: An unknown error has occured,
this program has encountered an unknown error. You may report the bug below
or quit the program. There's a Report Bug button which I'm reporting this bug from,
a Quit button and a More info button.

Hope you guys can come up with something. Thanks in advance.

Comment 31 Fedora End Of Life 2013-12-21 08:49:51 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 18 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 18. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '18'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be
able to fix it before Fedora 18 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior to Fedora 18's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 32 Fedora End Of Life 2014-02-05 12:08:13 UTC
Fedora 18 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2014-01-14. Fedora 18 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
