Description elias 2012-10-24 10:20:47 UTC
Description of problem:
ISC dhclient does not support IPv6 either. RHEL 5 contains package dhcpv6, but this client does not support setting up a DUID type. It automaticaly generates some incorrect type of DUID-LLT which is unpredictable and is very hard to copy from a console of IPv6 only host yet without network to the dhcpd6.conf of server.

As dhcpv6 is now obsolete, I am filling this bug for dhcp. It would be fine to have a reasonable DHCPv6 client on RHEL5 and I think that a newer version of ISC dhcp will do it very well.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Name : dhcp
Arch : x86_64
Epoch : 12

Name : dhcpv6
Arch : x86_64
Version : 1.0.10
Release : 20.el5

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1.

Actual results:
DHCPv6 is supported only by obsolete client which is not full featured.

Expected results:
DHCPv6 should be supported by full featured client.

Thank you for the report, however
there's no way we can rebase ISC dhcp to 4.x in RHEL-5.

dhcpv6 has been obsoleted upstream (few years ago)
but we still support it in RHEL-5.
You can fill a new bug against dhcpv6 component and describe the DUID related problem you see. Thanks.

Closing this one as WONTFIX.

I forgot to add that ISC dhcp in RHEL-6 is IPv6 Ready (http://www.ipv6ready.org) so your another possibility is RHEL-6.
