rpm -qa of that system
The problem is on kpathsea's side (i.e. TeX Live). kpathsea refuses to index directories which are symlinks and this is exactly the case of texinfo-tex. It puts all its files to old TEXMF hierarchy -> /usr/share/texmf which doesn't get indexed from /usr/share/texlive/texmf-local so the call to etex from texi2dvi fails. I will fix it in the new texlive build (release 8+) texlive-2012-8.20121115_r28267.fc18 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 18. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/texlive-2012-8.20121115_r28267.fc18 Package texlive-2012-8.20121115_r28267.fc18: * should fix your issue, * was pushed to the Fedora 18 testing repository, * should be available at your local mirror within two days.
