Description of problem:
Maven contains some dependencies pulling in additional packages that are not strictly needed (at least several *-parent packages), 

Basically: yum install maven should not install any maven plugins.

I believe that this bug is fixed in maven-3.0.4-30,
which is available in Fedora Rawhide.  I am closing the bug now,
thank you for reporting it.  A summary of changes is included below.
