Hmmm, I seem to have a mix of 1.4 and 1.5 packages: 1.4: mate-conf-1.4.0-21.fc17.x86_64 mate-conf-editor-1.4.0-2.fc17.x86_64 mate-conf-gtk-1.4.0-21.fc17.x86_64 mate-control-center-1.4.0-9.fc17.x86_64 mate-corba-1.4.0-9.fc17.x86_64 mate-desktop-1.4.1-11.fc17.x86_64 mate-desktop-libs-1.4.1-11.fc17.x86_64 mate-file-manager-1.4.0-12.fc17.x86_64 mate-file-manager-extensions-1.4.0-12.fc17.x86_64 mate-mime-data-1.4.0-10.fc17.noarch mate-panel-1.4.0-12.fc17.x86_64 mate-power-manager-1.4.0-2.fc17.x86_64 mate-settings-daemon-1.4.0-6.fc17.x86_64 mate-system-log-1.4.0-3.fc17.x86_64 mate-system-monitor-1.4.0-2.fc17.x86_64 mate-terminal-1.4.0-4.fc17.x86_64 mate-text-editor-1.4.0-2.fc17.x86_64 mate-utils-1.4.0-3.fc17.x86_64 mate-vfs-1.4.0-14.fc17.x86_64 mate-vfs-smb-1.4.0-14.fc17.x86_64 1.5 mate-backgrounds-1.5.0-2.fc17.noarch mate-calc-1.5.0-1.fc17.x86_64 mate-common-1.5.0-1.fc17.noarch mate-dialogs-1.5.0-1.fc17.x86_64 mate-doc-utils-1.5.0-1.fc17.noarch mate-file-manager-open-terminal-1.5.0-1.fc17.x86_64 mate-icon-theme-1.5.0-1.fc17.noarch mate-image-viewer-1.5.0-2.fc17.x86_64 mate-keyring-1.5.0-2.fc17.x86_64 mate-keyring-pam-1.5.0-2.fc17.x86_64 mate-media-1.5.0-1.fc17.x86_64 mate-menus-1.5.0-1.fc17.x86_64 mate-menus-libs-1.5.0-1.fc17.x86_64 mate-notification-daemon-1.5.0-1.fc17.x86_64 mate-polkit-1.5.0-1.fc17.x86_64 mate-screensaver-1.5.1-1.fc17.x86_64 mate-session-manager-1.5.0-1.fc17.x86_64 mate-themes-1.5.0-1.fc17.noarch mate-window-manager-1.5.2-7.fc17.x86_64 Yep. Give it some time while the 1.5 packages get pushed. Sorry for the delay. It takes longer to get to F17. The mail is slower delivering packages. :/ Can you do a yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing? I'm seeing all of the packages pushed to testing for 17 The updates-testing packages are giving me problems: --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Package: mate-utils-1.4.0-3.fc17.x86_64 (@updates) Requires: libmate-panel-applet-2.so.1()(64bit) Removing: mate-panel-1.4.0-12.fc17.x86_64 (@updates) libmate-panel-applet-2.so.1()(64bit) Updated By: mate-panel-1.5.2-4.fc17.x86_64 (updates-testing) Not found I added --skip-broken and it excluded: Skipped (dependency problems): mate-panel x86_64 1.5.2-4.fc17 updates-testing 1.8 M mate-panel-libs x86_64 1.5.2-4.fc17 updates-testing 33 k mate-power-manager x86_64 1.5.1-3.fc17 updates-testing 3.0 M So it updated mate-system-monitor-1.5.0-2.fc17 mate-calc-1.5.1-1.fc17 mate-control-center-1.5.1-1.fc17 mate-settings-daemon-1.5.4-1.fc17 mate-file-manager-1.5.2-1.fc17 mate-file-manager-extensions-1.5.2-1.fc17 mate-desktop-libs-1.5.5-1.fc17 mate-desktop-1.5.5-1.fc17 And now I can login again, but I get an error pop-up: "Clock" has quit unexpectedly. and clicking Reload just fails again. I suppose it needs the mate-panel updates also. Yup. Thanks for the report. I'll look into it. I removed mate-utils and then I was able to update mate-panel and now everything works. (Except, obviously, I'm missing some utilities.) I'm in the process of rebuilding the package for F17. *** Bug 884306 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** mate-utils-1.4.0-5.fc17 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 17. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/mate-utils-1.4.0-5.fc17 mate-utils-1.4.0-5.fc18 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 18. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/mate-utils-1.4.0-5.fc18 mate-utils-1.4.0-5.fc16 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 16. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/mate-utils-1.4.0-5.fc16 *** Bug 884475 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** The new package (comment 22) has a conflict: Transaction Check Error: file /usr/bin/mate-system-log from install of mate-utils-1.4.0-5.fc17.x86_64 conflicts with file from package mate-system-log-1.4.0-3.fc17.x86_64 file /usr/share/applications/mate-system-log.desktop from install of mate-utils-1.4.0-5.fc17.x86_64 conflicts with file from package mate-system-log-1.4.0-3.fc17.x86_64 I removed mate-system-log and then mate-utils installed ok. As of Dec. 12th 2012, I've run into this bug (and I just did an update over the weekend of about 400 packages, I assume MATE was one of the things to get updated. The only reason I was able to figure MATE crashing when I logged in was because abrt notifified me when I switched back to LXDE for now, just to get a GUI. Thankfully, none of my other WM's are broke. The long and the short of this is it appears that MATE-1.5.x is still broke and it's been far longer then 2 days since the last update. Is there a fix for this? You still get the crash immediately after updating, with the old version still running. Just reboot and try MATE again. Works For Me™ anyway. A reboot makes things worse. mate-panel crashes and restarts instantly upon login, only way to stop it was to ctrl+alt+backspace to the login screen and swiched back to LXDE for now. What's next? Did you remove mate-system-log per comment#26? It prevents mate-utils from updating. Also, please report your mate-* versions if that isn't your issue. Abrt redirected me here as an existing bug. I can log into mate now, but mate-panel crashes and restarts very quickly. Making the WM unusable and my poor cursor goes off into seizure-land till I reset X. I can use my laptop, but w/ a different WM (fluxbox/LXDE/Gnome3 (ICK!)) for now. OK, so .. MATE works (and the world is right again) ... but there is a problem. When I log in, no more seizures, but I got a completely reset desktop. All of my customizations are gone :( (In reply to comment #36) > OK, so .. MATE works (and the world is right again) ... but there is a > problem. When I log in, no more seizures, but I got a completely reset > desktop. All of my customizations are gone :( I suppose this issue belongs in a new bug, but in the meantime, following up on discussion in #mate tonight: In order for user settings to be carried over from MateConf to GSettings, .convert files need to be provided by each transitioning package. The .convert files are 1:1 mappings of GSettings to MateConf keys, and are used by mateconf-gsettings-data-convert(1), which is launched by the session manager on startup (via .desktop file in /etc/xdg/autostart). Unfortunately, it seems that these files have not been added to packages. This needs to be done ASAP and IMO should be considered a BLOCKER for 1.5/1.6 in Fedora stable. Here is an example of what needs to be done: https://github.com/cygwinports/mate-image-viewer/commit/52ec275 This also means that, despite being deprecated, mate-conf MUST be shipped (with gsettings support) as part of @mate-desktop for the foreseeable future. Comment #36 confirms that the original issue is fixed. Comment #37 is being addressed upstream. |
